The details given on the Birth Certificate (GRO Digital Image) are:- Born: 28 November 1856 at Ellesmere Port Whitby. Name: Sarah, Girl. Father: blank. Mother: Ann Crimes. Father's Occupation: blank. Informant: X The Mark of Ann Crimes, mother of Ellesmere Port Whitby. Registered: 12 December 1856. Using the limited information from the Birth Certificate, I believe that Sarah was the illegitimate daughter of Ann CRIMES (later GRIMES) b.1839 Overpool who was resident at Whitby in 1851. The Deaths Index record is in the name GRIMES but that name was also used by Ann CRIMES (presumed mother). The age at death, and the registration district are consistent with the Birth Certificate. Sadly Sarah died within 4 months of her birth. |
