The place of baptism (FamilySearch) is unexpected, but matches that of his sister Hilda. The 1940 Gateshead marriage is assigned to this Harry based on elimination. From The Manchester Evening News of 20 October 1990: "PoW calls up his old army pals. I am trying to find two ex-army pals. The first is Harry Crimes (or Chrimes) who lived before the war in Cadogan Street, Moss Side. I lived in Normanby Street. I moved to Chorlton in 1926 when I was 10 and we lost touch. I then met up again with him in February 1940 when we both went into the Manchester Regiment together and did our basic training at Ladybarn School and then on to Whittakers Mill at Ashton. ... Ron Burgess." Harry's Grant of Administration reads: "CRIMES, Harry of 20 Bickleigh Clo Pinhoe Exeter died 7 October 1994 Administration Bristol 9 November." |
