In 1921 Fred was attending school 'Whole Time'.
From The Leeds Mercury of 11 May 1938: "Black Day for R.A.F. Four 'Planes Crash.... Five of yesterday's victims were flying in two 'planes from Wyton (Hunts.). Three were occupants of a bomber attached to 114 squadron, which crashed on the aerodrome ground. The two others were in a machine belonging to No. 139 Bomber Squadron, which fell into a field near Godmanchester... The names of the victims in the crashes are:- Wyton crash- Pilot Officer Douglas Perry, Aircraftman John Joseph Gerrard Rice and Aircraftman Frederick Crimes....."
The Find-a-Grave record includes: "Aircraftman 1st Class, Fred Crimes of 114 Squadron RAF Wyton. He was one of the crew of three who were killed when their Bristol Blenheim Mk I (K7037) lost control and crashed after suffering engine failure on take off from RAF Wyton."
