Margerie is connected to her parents by her Birth Certificate which, when first written in 1909, gave father's name as Ernest Jones and mother's name as "Mary Elizabeth Jones formerly Chrimes" but the Register was annotated on 9 December 1910 with instructions to remove all references to Jones, though they in fact remain. It seems that Mary Elizabeth, the original informant, had wanted to present herself as married to Ernest JONES, and perhaps even hoped that this would happen but, for whatever reason, it did not. Furthermore by 1911 Mary Elizabeth had chosen (if she had any choice) to stay with Ernest JONES and to give up her child Margerie. Margerie appears on the 1911 England Census as Marjorie, a boarder, age 1, with the PROBERT family in Shrewsbury. The marriage record is chosen despite the difference in first name, because it is otherwise a good fit. This marriage is confirmed by the 1939 Register which gives correct date of birth. I cannot find a credible death record for Margerie/Marjorie Pryce/Price. |
