Obituaries for Stanley Bertram can be found online, and a flavour of the man is given in this extract: "... Regarded by some as an 'unfathomable' character, outwardly severe, given to some eccentricities and the occasional peculiar ejaculation, Stanley Chrimes did little, it would seem, to disabuse anyone of such an impression. Few doubted his authority, however, a quality he admired in others, and on closer acquaintance, the acquisition of which took a little time, it is true, his friendship once bestowed was warm-hearted, sympathetic and generous...".
