In Kelly's Directory of Cheshire for 1896, James is described as "painter, paper-hanger, decorator, grocer, draper and general dealer"!
From The Crewe Guardian of 13 January 1872: "MESSRS. J.B. and B. LEACH beg to announce that they have received instructions from Mr. James Chrimes, No. 1, Cow-lane, Norley (who is declining the business), to SELL BY AUCTION, without reserve, on Thursday, January 18th, 1872, the whole of his extensive stock of PAPER-HANGINGS, numbering over 1,000 pieces, and comprising papers suitable for parlours, sitting rooms, lobbies, staircases, bedrooms, kitchens, &c. Lots to suit purchasers. Sale to commence at One o'clock."
CheshireBMD gives the location of the 1884 marriage as "Runcorn, Civil Marriage or Registrar Attended" but this should be treated with caution as the ceremony may have been Methodist.
In 1921 James was working on 'Own Account' 'At Home'.
James's Grant of Probate Record reads: "Chrimes James of School Bank Morley [sic] Frodsham Cheshire died 6 March 1927 Administration London to Thomas Chrimes retired builder. Effects £465 1s.6d."
James and Nancy had no children with them either in 1891 (six years after marrying) or in 1911 (twenty-six years after marrying) so I conclude that they had no children.
