The place of birth is taken from a GenesReunited tree by "Victor Chrimes". Victor's marriage record is very interesting. Firstly the name in the marriage index is Victor CHRIMIS. However, the corresponding entry for C▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮ M HILL states the spouse to be CHRIMES, so this is clearly an index preparation error. Secondly, although Victor was only 17 when he married, the matches of age, location and elimination are compelling. Subsequently the Birth Certificate for his son R M CHRIMES has confirmed the marriage. CheshireBMD gives the location of the 1959 marriage as "Bucklow, Civil Marriage". From The Manchester Evening News of 18 April 1967: "Jail for Pc who stole on beat. Victor Chrimes, a 25-year-old police-constable, who committed a series of break-ins and thefts while on his beat, was jailed for 15 months at Derbyshire Quarter Sessions. Chrimes, whose address was given as c/o Hale Road, Hale, Cheshire, a member of the Derbyshire Constabulary for four and a half years, had pleaded guilty to two offences of breaking and entering and two of theft. He also asked for 56 other offences to be considered. Mr. J J Deave, prosecuting, said the offences, some of which occurred before Chrimes joined the force, came to light when he was caught red-handed by other police officers stealing petrol from a pump in the yard of a wholesale fruiterer's. 'A large number of these offences were committed at night when he was in uniform and checking premises' said Mr. Deave. IN CELLAR. Some of the property was stored in a cellar underneath a police court at Eckington and some in his garden. At the time he was living in a house next to the police station, said Mr. Deave. Mr. K Matthewman, defending, said that it was quite impossible 'for me to put into words the feelings of the accused in this case'. He said Chrimes could offer no explanation for the offences. 'Most of the property was useless to him. He didn't use it or need it. He stored it like a magpie.' In a statement Chrimes was alleged to have said: 'My deepest regret over these matters is to my wife and family and Derbyshire Police Force which over the past four and a half years I have really loved being a member of.'" The 1982 Trafford marriage is assigned to Victor as a second marriage because there is no other Victor CHRIMES in this research prior to the marriage. Victor's death notice reads: "CHRIMES Vic Passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday 16th May 2012, aged 70. Funeral service will be held at the North Devon Crematorium on Thursday 31st May at 2.00pm" |
