William's birth was registered in the name CRIMES. I cannot find William on the 1881 UK Census. From The County Express, Brierley Hill, Stourbridge, Kidderminster and Dudley News of 30 December 1882: "Marriages - On the 27th inst., at St. James's Church, Ashted (by the Rev. F. Williams, vicar of Saltley), William, second son of Mr. William Chrimes, of Dudley, to Ann (Annie), eldest daughter of Mr. John Taylor, Inkerman Street, Vauxhall." From The London Gazette of 27 June 1893: "Notice is hereby given, that the partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, William Chrimes and Cecil Edward Cotton, carrying on business as Manufacturers of Steel and Iron Forgings, at Hope Steel and Iron Works, Dudley Port, in the county of Stafford, under the style or firm of Chrimes, Cotton and Co., has been dissolved, by mutual consent, as and from the 28th day of January 1893. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid by the said William Chrimes." In 1921 William was an 'Employer' based at 53 St. Peter's Sq. In the 1921 England Census William and his daughter Flora Matilda Taylor had three boarders living with them. William's death was registered in the name CHRIMES. William's Grant of Probate record reads: "CHRIMES William of Wychbury 8 Newhampton Road East Wolverhampton died 26 November 1945 Probate Birmingham 24 May to Flora Matilda Taylor Chrimes spinster. Effects £947 10s." See www.billiongraves.com for an image of the gravestone. |
