In the 1911 UK Census Edward was in the Tranmere workhouse as was his father, but not his mother who was employed as a live-in servant. In the 1921 England Census Edward was 'Inmate' at an Institution administered by Birkenhead Board of Guardians. In 1921 Edward was attending school(?) 'Whole Time'. Edward was a resident of Dr. Barnardo's Homes, 18/26 Stepney Causeway, London E1 prior to them paying for his emigration to Canada in 1923. He declared his intention to remain permanently in Canada but I can find no records of Edward in Canada, and Edward returned to England in 1927. Although on his arrival at Liverpool he indicated his intention to return to Canada, it appears that he did not do so. From S PAWLEY, cousin of Edward's only child P: "Edward joined the Royal Navy and was awarded a long service medal so it is likely that he joined up very soon after returning from Canada. P says that he was born in Sept 1908, she was the only child and the sole beneficiary of his will which also proves the date of death." Edward's Grant of Administration reads: "CHRYMES Edward of 52 Iverna Court London W8 died 14 October 1951. Administration 31 October [1957] to P▮▮▮▮▮▮▮ F▮▮▮▮▮▮ Chrymes spinster. Effects £228 6s. 5d" |
