Philip CRIMES has obtained Fred's birth certificate. On 1 Oct 1901 Fred was at Victoria Road School, Chester, with a dob of Nov 1895, living on a canal boat. I cannot find Fred on the 1901 or 1911 UK Census. The 1912 marriage record is in the name Frederick. In 1921 Fred was working a canal boat, but was employed by Coburn and Cowper, Chemical Wks., Manchester. From The Nottingham Journal of 7 June 1934: "WASTED NINETY THOUSAND GALLONS OF WATER Frederick Crimes, a canal boatman, was summoned at Sandbach Petty Sessions for wasting canal water at Red Bull Locks, Church Lawton. It was stated by Mr. T.J. Allcock, for the L.M.S. Railway Company, that Crimes wasted about 90,000 gallons of water at the lock. He was fined 5s." Fred's Grant of Probate reads: "CRIMES, Fred of 8 Almshouses Sandbach Cheshire died 18 December 1974 Probate Sheffield 11 February [1975] £933" |
