In 1921 Joseph Herbert was attending school 'Whole Time'. From The Northwich Chronicle of 13 March 1996: "MR JOSEPH CRIMES The funeral has taken place of Joseph Herbert Crimes, 79, of Mount Pleasant Road, Davenham. Mr. Crimes, known to many as Bert, was born in Davenham the second youngest of five children. He married his wife, Catherine, at Witton Church in 1947 and they settled in Middlewich Road. He was widowed in 1979. He then married Kitty in 1983 and in 1987 they settled and remained in Davenham. During the war Mr Crimes served in the Welsh Guards, training new recruit[s] and saw action in Europe. After the D Day landings he was wounded in Belgium. After the war he worked at ICI Winnington and Lostoc[k] for 35 years as a rigger. He was a very proud grandfather and devoted family man. He enjoyed gardening, was a supporter of Northwich Victoria Football Club and supported Northwich Town Youth Football Club where his grandson played. For many years he was a sidesman at Rudheath Parish Church and also looked after the church garden. The service at Rudheath Parish Church, with interment at Rudheath Cemetery, was conducted by the Rev. Phillip Wain. Floral tributes and donations to the British Heart Foundation were received.
