From The Paisley and Renfrewshire Gazette of 18 July 1903: "JOHN NEILSON INSTITUTION - BOTANY PRIZES - ... Samuel Crimes ..."
The marriage certificate is in the name "S Gordon Crimes". Samuel Gordon married 6 days after enlisting for Military Service in WWI.
In the 1921 England Census Samuel Gordon declared himself as 'Boarder' even though he was a 1-person household. He was probably staying in a hotel room. He was not resident with his wife.
In 1921 Samuel Gordon was employed by Remington Typewriter Co. Ltd. 100 Gracechurch St. London E.C.3
From The London Gazette: "Notice is hereby given that the partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, Alexander Longmuir, Samuel Gordon Crimes and James Sinclair Brydon, carrying on business as General Merchants, Importers and Exporters, at Grafton House, Golden-square, in the county of London, under the style or firm of GORDON and ALEXANDER has been dissolved by mutual consent as from the 31st. day of December 1922, so far as concerns the said Samuel Gordon Crimes, who retires from the said firm..."
Electoral Register records for 1929 show that Samuel Gordon and Edith Annie held an interest in property at 21 Spring Gardens, Manchester. Those records give place of abode as 21a Notting Hill Gate, London.
In a report of a court hearing in The Fulham Chronicle of 29 July 1932, concerning theft of money from 'The Fiver's Club', "Samuel Gordan [sic] Crimes, the treasurer, said it was a shelter for unemployed men ..."
From The Tamworth Herald of 15 February 1936: "LOCAL PETTY SESSIONS Speeding Cases. The following were summoned and dealt with as stated for driving motor vehicles above the speeds allowed:..... Samuel Gordon Crimes, 8 Queen's Gate Park, London, S.W.7, 15s...."
From The London Gazette: "Notice is hereby given that the partnership heretofore subsisting between us, Douglas Charles Thomson, Samuel Gordon Crimes and Leonard Dudley Woods, carrying on the business or profession of Chartered Accountants. at 150 Southampton Row, WC1, under the style or firm of THOMSON, KINGDON, MARBECK and CO had as from 2nd April 1938 been dissolved by mutual consent so far as regards the said Leonard Dudley Woods, who retires from the firm..." [Douglas Charles and Samuel Gordon continued the business with the same name until that partnership was dissolved in 1945].
Samuel Gordon acted as Liquidator following the winding-up of several London businesses during the period 1932-1940.
Samuel Gordon went into partnership with another Chartered Accountant until that Partnership was dissolved in 1952.
Samuel Gordon's Grant of Probate reads: "CRIMES Samuel Gordon of 6 Windermere Lytton Grove Wandsworth London died 9 April 1956 at Putney Hospital Putney London. Probate London 1 June to Edith Annie Crimes widow. Effects: £827 7s.3d."
