From The Staffordshire Sentinel of 2 March 1932: "FUNERAL OF MRS. F.C. CRIMES, ALSAGER. Wife of Kidsgrove Surveyor. There were many expressions of sympathy at the funeral, which took place at Lawton Parish Church, of Mrs. Crimes, wife of Mr. F.C. Crimes, of Wimborne, Alsager, Surveyor to Kidsgrove Urban Council. Mrs. Crimes was taken ill just over a week ago, and her sudden death came as a great shock. At the time of her death she appeared to be well on the road to recovery, and only a day of two previously she had felt sufficiently recovered to go out for a walk in the village. Widespread sympathy has been extended to Mr. Crimes in his bereavement. During the 2 years or so that she had resided in Alsager, Mrs. Crimes had endeared herself to a large circle of freinds. She was a member of Alsager Parish Church and, in addition, she occasionally attended the Parish Church at Lawton. In a quiet and unassuming manner she assisted many good causes. She was a member of Alsager Golf Club and Alsager Badminton Club. Before their removal to Alsager, Mr. and Mrs. Crimes lived at Kidsgrove and, while there, Mrs. Crimes took a helpful interest in many of the local activities, including the work of Kidsgrove Parish Church. She was a native of Tunstall. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. J.H.L. Edwards, Rector of Talke. The chief mourners were: Mr. F.C. Crimes (husband), Mrs. George Foster, of Bath (sister), Mr. Percy Johnson, of Brighton (brother), Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Crimes (father-in-law and mother-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Crimes (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr. G.H. Crimes (nephew), and Miss Audrey Foster, of Bath, Miss Cassie Crimes and Miss Peggy Crimes (nieces) ... " It is notable that not once does the report do Beatrice the justice of mentioning her forename - not even an initial! Beatrice's Grant of Administration reads; "CRIMES Beatrice of Wimborne House Sandbach Road Alsager Cheshire (wife of Frederic Charles Crimes) died 28 February 1932. Administration London 30 September to the said Frederic Charles Crimes surveyor. Effects: £183 12s. 4d." |
