Ann was given the name CRIMES at birth. There is a birth record for Ann CRIMES 1851 Q4 Runcorn, though this is a year before the baptism. I cannot find Annie Rathbone on the 1871 UK Census. She was not with her parents. In 1901 Ann was Anne N CHRIMES, boarder aged 49 in Dudley, still single, but the N could have been a mis-transcribed R. From The Dudley Chronicle of 15 July 1911: "HEAD TEACHERS'S RESIGNATION Miss A. R. Chrimes, who has for many years rendered excellent service to the Dudley Education Authority, has tendered her resignation as head mistress of Holly Hall Council School as from the 29th. September next. Having in view the good work done by Miss Chrimes, the Director of Education (Mr. J. M. Wynne) has been instructed to thank her on behalf of the Education Committee." Annie died a spinster. Annie's Grant of Probate record reads: "CHRIMES Annie Rathbone of the Dingle Winsford Cheshire spinster died 24 January 1916 Probate London 27 May to James Chrimes schoolmaster and Mabel Gimson [sic] Leather (wife of George Frederick Leather) . Effects £352 15s 8d." From The Chester Chronicle of 29 January 1916: "FORMER HALTON LADY'S DEATH. - The death took place very suddenly on Sunday of Miss Annie Chrimes, of Winsford, and formerly of Halton. She was only taken ill on Saturday morning and passed away within 24 hours from pneumonia. Miss Chrimes, who was 64 years of age, was the daughter of the late Mr. John Chrimes, of Spark Lane, Halton, and was born in the village, as her father was before her. Miss Chrimes was a school teacher by profession, and for many years was on the staff of the Earl of Dudley's School at Dudley. Five years ago she retired and went to live at Winsford, with which place she had had previous association. The funeral took place at Halton Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. The chief mourners were Messrs. Wm. and James Chrimes (brothers), John Finch and Fred Finch, Mrs. Parry, Mr. and Mrs. Dwerryhouse, Mrs. Dunn (Winsford), Mr. and Mrs. Hosker. Many beautiful wreaths were sent." See also report of death in The Runcorn Guardian of 28 January 1916. |
