The three residence records give the name as Francis, Frances and F but nevertheless it is clear that Francis was male. On 13 January 1861 Francis was "Wandering about on Pennistone Road (sent to the Workhouse)". Later in 1861 Francis was resident at the workhouse in Sheffield. Francis was admitted to Manchester Withington Workhouse in 1862, 1869 and 1872 (these records in the name CHRIMES). Two lunatic asylum admission records, though in the name CHRIMES, almost certainly refer to this Francis: Admitted as a pauper to Prestwich Lunatic Asylum on 4 February 1854 and discharged "recovered" on 29 June 1855. Admitted as a pauper to Lancaster Lunatic Asylum on 20 March 1883 and died there on 2 April 1883. This would explain why I cannot find a conventional death record for Francis. |
