Between 1851 and 1871 William and his family changed their name to GRIMES. William's marriage register entry gives his father's name as Peter GRIMES In 1891 William was in the Clatterbridge Workhouse: 'William Grimes, 73, Widower, Retired General Labourer, Birthplace: Great Neston'. The 1893 Deaths Index record is assigned to this William, despite being in the name 'William Crimes', as it cannot be assigned to any other William, and the age given at death, 75, coincides with the age given at the 1891 workhouse record. |
