Joseph is head of the previously separate branch "Chester & Crewe". Many researchers have connected this Joseph to parents Robert CHRIMES and Mary TURNER of Norley/Frodsham, citing a Frodsham baptism on 20 November 1755. HOWEVER, that baptism was of a William, not a Joseph! Robert CHRIMES and Mary TURNER did not have a child Joseph. The baptism record gives Joseph the surname CHRIMES so this is used. The assignment of the marriage to Catherine POVAR is based on the coincidence of witnesses at that marriage and that of Joseph's brother Samuel 1 month earlier. The association of the 1774 Runcorn marriage with the subsequent Chester baptisms (thereby linking the "Chester and Crewe" branch to the "Halton" branch) is based on circumstantial evidence, including the references to the wife/mother as Catherine in both locations. Although the burial record gives age at death as 60 years, this is thought to be a rounded number. Joseph's will dated 14 August 1812 in the name CRIMES is accessible online at FamilySearch.org. |
