Alternative place of birth (1921 England Census): Great Stanney. From 1881, Edward James started to use the name GRIMES. However, at his marriage in 1882 Edward James used the name CRIMES. This person was called variously Edward James, James Edward or James. In 1921 Edward James gave his occupation as 'Farmer - Small Holding Worker', working on 'Own Account' 'At Home'. In the 1921 England Census Edward James, his wife Margaret and their son Edwin were declared to have the surname GRIMES. In the 1921 England Census, also living with Edward James and Margaret was their 'Grand daughter' 'Winifred GRIMES', age 13 years 0 months. The Births Index (GRO) has the registration of the birth of a 'Winifred GRIMES' in 1908 Q3 at Chester, but the mother's maiden surname is not recorded. Winifred may have been the child of Edward James and Margaret's daughter Laura Christina but I have no records to support this. Gravestone photograph (giving date of death) has been contributed by Phil BOYLE. |
