From "The University of Glasgow Story" website: "Mrs C. R▮▮▮▮▮▮▮ Chrimes (née Charters; formerly Payne) was awarded the honorary degree of DUniv on 18 June 2014 in recognition of her sporting achievements. Chrimes won Discus gold at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. She was silver medalist at 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand, and also competed at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, finishing tenth. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich she contested the Discus final and also competed at three European Championships. She was UK Discus champion five times between 1966 and 1974, Scottish champion six times between 1962 and 1974, and won three Scottish Shot Putt titles between 1959 and 1974. She was also UK and Scottish Discus record holder 1962-72. Chrimes has also been active as an athletics administrator and coach, managing the UK junior team and coaching at the University of Birmingham where she was a lecturer in Sports & Exercise Science. Chrimes first husband, Howard Payne (d. 1992), was an outstanding Hammer thrower who competed at three Olympic and five Commonwealth Games winning three gold (1962, 1966 and 1970)and one silver (1974). Their son, Russell, is also an accomplished thrower. Chrimes continues to compete in 2014; in 2013 she won three World Masters' titles, in Discus, Shot and High Jump, as well as a bronze in Hammer. She currently holds five World Masters' Records."
