The baptism record gives date of birth as 31 December 1886 which is not consistent with the Births Index record for Jan-Mar 1886. The baptism record is presumed to be in error, the date of birth probably being 31 December 1885. Charles died in France whilst serving in WWI as Driver in the Royal Field Artillery. Charles's Commonwealth War Graves record reads: "CRIMES, Dvr. C, 190675. "D" Bty. 121st Bde. Royal Field Artillery. 10th Nov., 1918. Age 32. Son of Thomas and Martha Crimes; husband of Ada Kelsall (formerly Crimes), of 31, Ramilies Rd., Sefton Park, Liverpool. S. III. T. 15." Charles's mother was not Martha, Thomas's second wife, but was his first wife Sarah Elizabeth. From The Chester Chronicle of 23 November 1918: "ROLL OF HONOUR DEATHS CRIMES - On November 10, died in France from influenza, Driver Charles Crimes, R.F.A., the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Crimes, 65, Lower Bridge-street, Chester." and "CRIMES - on November 10th, died in France, Driver Charles Crimes, R.F.A., age 32, the dearly beloved husband of Ada Crimes, 2, Green-street, Peel Green, Patricroft (late of Chester) ... From his sorrowing wife and little Clifford." |
