In the 1861 census Ellen was a widow aged 40, but with a 3 month old child, so Josiah must have died 1860/61. Electoral Register records for 1868-85 are in the surname Chrimes. The 1871 occupation, though unusual, is correctly transcribed from the census record. From The Manchester Evening News of 28 May 1901: "DEATHS - CRIMES - On the 22nd. inst., at 4, Vale-street, Hulme, ELLEN CRIMES, aged 81 years (late of Strangeways). Interred at St. John's, Higher Broughton, May 25th." |
