There is confusion concerning Mary's birth surname because at her last two marriages her declared father's surname differs. It is probable that Mary was born BROWN and had married CLAYTON before she married John Thomas CRIMES in 1881. At that marriage she was declared a widow and her father's name was given as Daniel BROWN. At her 1891 marriage she was again declared widow but her father's name was given as Daniel CLAYTON, which I take to be a mistake.
Mary had five children with John Thomas CRIMES all of whom died in infancy
