John was named CRIMES at birth, though the Bishop's Transcripts gives his surname as CHRIMES. In 1841 John was aged 2 living with his father John (not mother) and his sisters Katherine and Mary in Great Budworth, all named CRIMES. In 1851 John was aged 13 away from his parents at Weaverham , Brother-in-law to William PICKERING, "Labourer on Navigation". In 1861 John was aged 23 in Cuddington, still single, a groom. CheshireBMD gives the location of the 1963 marriage as "Runcorn, Civil Marriage or Registrar Attended". In 1871 John was aged 32 in Runcorn, married to Elizabeth, working as a coachman. In 1881 John was aged 43 in Weaverham, still married to Elizabeth, working as a publican. From The Northwich Guardian of 27 January 1886: "ALLEGED ASSAULT - William Pickering, of Weaverham, was summoned for assaulting John Chrimes. Mr. Dreaper appeared for the complainant, and said his client was the landlord of the Wheat Sheaf, whilst the defendant kept the Ring o'Bells. On the 19th January the complainant was in a public house at Acton Bridge, when the defendant came in with another man, and, making use of bad language put his fist in the face of the complainant... The case was dismissed." John's first wife Elizabeth WEEDALL died in 22 April 1888 in Weaverham. John married his second wife Emily Gore THOMAS in 1889 in Altrincham. In 1891 John was aged 51 in Weaverham, now married to Emily Gore, working as a licensed victualler at "The Wheat Sheaf" I cannot find either John or Emily on the 1901 census. By 1911 Emily was declared as a widow, so John must have died between 1891 and 1911. Indeed he died in 1893. John's Grant of Administration record reads: "CHRIMES John of the "Wheatsheaf" inn Weaverham Cheshire licensed victualler died 8 November 1893 Administration London 15 December to Emily Gore Chrimes widow. Effects £1033 3s 2d" |
