In 1921 William was employed by Mr Cash, Builder of Capenhurst. From The Cheshire Observer of 9 November 1957: "DEATH OF MR. WM. WILLIAMS We regret to record the death which occurred on 29th October, of Mr. William Williams, of The Cottage, Oscroft. Aged 78, he was a native of Tarporley, and came to Oscroft on his marriage 55 years ago. In his younger days he was a member of the Tarporley Prize Band and of the Tarporley Church choir. He was a joiner by trade, and belonged to the old school of craftsmen before machines took away some of the human skills. In his working days he had been employed by many of the leading building firms of Chester and district. He was very proud of the fact that he had done a big part of the work of the restoration of the centre part of Tarvin Church roof about 30 years ago, and that his handiwork was supported with his name chiselled into one of the main beams. Although of retiring disposition, he had a wide circle of friends, and was held in high esteem for his integrity of character and skill. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters. The funeral took place on Saturday when Canon J.D. Pearson officiated at the house and at Tarvin Church. Miss Duckworth was the organist. The mourners were: Mrs W. Williams (widow), .. The bearers were Messrs. T. and E. Stanyer, T. and Travers Chrimes (nephews)...". William's Grant of Administration reads: "WILLIAMS William of The Cottage Oscroft Tarvin Cheshire died 29 October 1957 Administration Chester 10 November [1961] to William Dennis Williams electrical engineer. Effects £1000." |
