From The Chester Chronicle of 17 June 1916: "TARVIN - WEDDING - A very pretty wedding took place in St. Andrew's Church on Whit-Monday, the contracting parties being Mr. John Henry Hughes and Miss Sarah Crimes, both of Stapleford. The Vicar (the Rev. J.H. Wilcockson) officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked exceedingly pretty ... and was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Gertie Crimes (sister of the bride) and Miss Sarah Vernon, who wore ... The best man was Mr. W. Lee. Master Sam Shallcross (nephew) acted as page-boy. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes are spending the honeymoon in New Brighton ... They were the recipients of many useful presents." In the 1921 England Census Sarah Elizabeth and her husband Thomas Henry Hughes were living with Sarah Elizabeth's parents, but both declared to be 'Boarder'. In the 1939 Register the surname HUGHES is crossed through and overwritten with STALKER, signifying a later marriage. A Deaths Index record for 'Sarah Stalker' d.1967 Q2 West Cheshire (age 72) may apply. |
