In 1920, Moses was living with his grandparents George CRIMES and Liza. On the 1940 US Federal Census, Moses and Ethel Mae were declared to be man and wife, though they did not in fact marry until 1942, and that marriage may have been illegal. In 1940, living with Moses was his niece Ola Belle Crimes (married) but this has not yet helped in identifying Moses' father. On the application for a marriage licence prior to the 1942 second marriage Moses declared that his first wife had died. She had not. The granting of a divorce of Moses from his first wife Susie Anna in 1958, many years after both parties had in fact re-married, probably indicates that they had been found out, and needed to legalise their second marriages. In the 1950 US Census Moses was declared to be married but was living alone. Social Security number 718-03-5598 (indicating Railroad Board). |
