In 1939 John was living with his grandfather William Henry CHRIMES. From The Leamington Spa Courier of 10 August 1951: "The engagement is announced between John Chrimes, grandson of Mr. & Mrs. C. Chrimes, 30 Warwick Road, Kenilworth and P▮▮▮▮▮▮ D▮▮▮▮▮▮ Lane, only daughter of Mr. & Mrs. W.J. Lane 19 Russell Terrace Leamington Spa." There is no record of a marriage following this engagement. From The Leamington Spa Courier of 9 January 1953: "A 16-year-old Leamington youth who gave his 21-year-old friend a ride on the back of his motorcycle appeared before Leamington Magistrates Court on Monday to answer a summons of carrying an unauthorised passenger, not producing his driving licence within 5 days and not displaying 'L' plates. The passenger John Chrimes(21) of 30 Warwick Road, Kenilworth was summoned for aiding and abetting the first offence. The youth said that he thought Chrimes had a licence as he had once tried to sell a motorcycle. The 16-year-old youth was fined a total of £2 and his passenger was ordered to pay 30s." From The Warwick and Warwickshire Advertiser of 12 March 1954: "Private James Wood ..... and John Chrimes, tree feller of 30 Warwick road, Kenilworth were each fined £1 by Warwick magistrates on Friday, for being drunk and disorderly in the Market Place." |
