From The Shields Daily News of 28 April 1959: "Widow's killer goes to gallows. Joseph Chrimes (30), of Wood End, Green Road, Hayes (Middlesex), was executed at Pentonville Prison (London) today for the capital murder of Mrs. Norah Summerfield, 60-year-old widow, at her bungalow in Harlington Road, Hilingdon, on New Year's Eve. At his trial at the Old Bailey, Chrimes was said to have battered Mrs. Summerfield to death with a tyre lever after breaking into her home." |
