From The Sandwell Evening Mail of 19 December 1981: [PHOTOGRAPH] "Widows flooded out of homes - A partially-blind pensioner and her elderly neighbour were left homeless when the water tank burst and flooded their Smethwick flats. The two widows stood helpless as galloms of water poured down the walls, flooding kitchens and bathrooms. Neighbours called the fire brigade. But the flooding was so severe that Mrs. Dora Chrimes aged 82, and Mrs. Ellen Trueman, (87), were today still unable to return to their warden-controlled homes in Astbury Avenue. ..."
