I have assigned Douglas Richard's second marriage on the basis that I have no other Douglas R CHRIMES in this research. This is proven to be correct by London Voter records showing Douglas and Marjery living together in Paddington in 1936. From The Surrey Advertiser of 18 September 1943: "RAFFLES AND THE PULLET - BENCH DECIDE AGAINST 'DOG WITH NO VICES' A dog named Raffles, said by its owner, Donald [sic] Richard Chrimes, of Littlecote, Leatherhead Road, Great Bookham, to possess all the good qualities of a mongrel, and none of its vices, was nevertheless considered by the Epsom Justices on Monday to be guilty of killing a hen, and they ordered Chrimes to keep it under proper control.... The Chairman said the Bench was satisfied that the dog did kill one or more birds, and the Justices had also heard something about a rabbit. It must be kept under proper control, or the Justices would consider ordering its desctruction. Costs, amounting to 8s. 6d, must also be paid." From The Surrey Advertiser of 9 June 1945: "WOKING TRADER FINED ... for selling a second-hand Ronson lighter at a price exceeding the maximum legal price... Mr Douglas R. Chrimes, of Ronson's said the price of Ronson lighters was controlled at 21s. in 1940, and had remained the same ever since..." Douglas Richard's Grant of Probate record reads: "CHRIMES Douglas Richard of Littlecote Leatherhead Road Bookham Surrey died 29 September 1955 at The Guildford Clinic Guildford Probate to Margery Ernestine Chrimes widow. Effects £5651 2s. 10d." |
