Walter John's full name comes from his wife Agnes Bertha's Grant of Probate record. Alternative date and place of marriage (FindMyPast Warwickshire Marriages): 31 January 1886 Sutton Coldfield. This may in fact be the third reading of the banns at Holy Trinity, Sutton Coldfield. In 1921 Walter John employed a live-in servant. In 1921 Walter John was an 'Employer' at Avenue Rd., Freshwater, I.O.W. Regarding Walter John's places of residence and work in 1921, 'The Avenue' at Totland and 'Avenue Road' at Freshwater are contiguous. From The Brecon County Times of 27 February 1930: "NEW BRECON ENTERPRISE - Amongst the business developments which are transforming the face of Brecon, the latest is probably the most natural and therefore welcome. A prominent hairdressing and toilet business was closed down at Christmas and there was left a legitimate opening for a new enterprise. That opening is being filled by Messrs W.J. Chrimes and Son, of Carlton House, Llandrindod Wells (Established 1910), whose first announcement appears on page 1. Incidentally, it is our duty, we think, to mention, in consequence of a rumour that has gone round as to the firm being 'German', that the Chrimes family is purely British and Mr Chrimes himself had the honour of serving in the Army for four years during the Great War." From The Brecon County Times of 7 April 1932: "W.J. CHRIMES and Son, Permanent Waving Experts, 4 The Struet, Brecon and Middleton Street, Llandrindod Wells..." Walter John's Grant of Probate record reads: "CHRIMES Walter John of 11 Nido Lyth Hill Road Bayston Hill Shrewsbury died 14 October 1944 Probate Oxford 22 February to Midland Bank executor and Trustee Company Limited. Effects £11573 14s 1d." A Notice in The London Gazette of 16 March 1945 seeks claimants to Walter John's estate. |
