The 1939 Register is annotated with "PRESTON" implying a later marriage. This is confirmed by the newspaper report of the wedding. The marriage appears in the Marriages Index under the name GRIMES. From The Crewe Chronicle of 2 January 1943: "WEDDINGS PRESTON - CRIMES At Wheelock Church on Monday, the Rev. B. Pemberton officiating, the wedding took place of Mr. R▮▮▮▮▮▮ Preston, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Preston, Booth-lane, Cledford, and Miss A▮▮▮▮ Crimes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Crimes, 71, Forge Fields, Wheelock. The bride was given away by her brother W▮▮▮▮▮▮ and wore a blue check costume. Her bridesmaids were the misses Hilda Johnson and Eliza Preston, the best man was Mr. A. Ratcliffe, and the groomsman Mr. A. Pritchard." |
