In 1921 Gwendoline was attending school 'Whole Time'. CheshireBMD gives location of the 1929 marriage as "Chester, Civil Marriage or Registrar Attended". In 1939 Gwendoline, though declared as married, was living with her parents. The 1939 Register implies that Gwendoline married for a second time, to POWELL. A notice in The Chester Chronicle shows that Gwendoline petitioned for divorce from Harry Almond in 1942. A notice in The London Gazette of 4 February 1944 shows that Gwendoline changed her name to Powell, and a marriage followed in 1955 (both bride and groom were named Powell). From S Jones, grand-daughter of Gwendoline's sister Millicent: "They lived at The Ranelagh Pub, Bounds Green, London. ..... They retired to The White House, Pinewoods, Cooden, Bexhill on Sea. Later on in her life, Auntie Gwen moved to Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, near to her grandchildren. This would have been in the early 90s." |
