From S Jones, Annie's great grand-daughter: "During the early years of WWII, Annie Crimes, Millicent's mother, had evacuees at Vicar's Cross Road. The thank you letter from the Queen (Mother) addresses the letter to Mrs Chrimes, although our branch are Crimes! We still have this letter." From The Cheshire Observer of 20 March 1970: "Mrs. A. Crimes. In the effects of Mrs. Annie Crimes, of 5, Vicar's Cross Road, Vicars Cross, who died on 9th March at Crossley Hospital, aged 80, was a personal message from the Queen, expressing her appreciation for the hospitality she gave to evacuees during the Second World War. Mrs. Crimes was born in Chester, and has lived at Vicar's Cross for the past 38 years. She was the widow of the late Mr. W.A. Crimes, a cycle dealer in the city for 40 years. She is survived by one son, two daughters, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The funeral took place on 12th March, when a service at St. Paul's Church, Boughton, conducted by the Rev. A.H. Culmer, followed by cremation at Chester Crematorium. The organist was Mr. A. Jerome. The mourners included: Mr and Mrs George Crimes (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs E Powell (son-in-law and daughter), Mrs M Morris (daughter) ...." |
