W.r.t. the 1921 England Census, the children's home appears to have been an institution administered by the Chester Board of Guardians, the residents being described as 'Inmate'. Arthur Edward, age 4, was not living with any of his family. From The Warwick and Warwickshire Advertiser of 23 May 1941: "POLICE COURTS - For riding a pedal cycle with an unauthorised front light, in Bridge-street, Barford, at 9.50 p.m. on April 12, Arthur E. Chrimes, a soldier, was fined 5s." In a 1943 'In Memoriam' notice for his brother James, Arthur was described as "brothers .. Arthur (in Middle East)" implying that he served in WWII. From The Leamington Spa Courier and Warwickshire Standard of 27 November 1953: "Kenilworth Royal and Ancient Order of Buffaloes Has Large Spirit for Small Lodge ...Bro. Arthur Chrimes C.P. spoke in similar vein....." |
