The following report from The Cheshire Observer of 25 January 1958 identifies Edna Bessie as a victim of theft: "FINED FOR THEFT OF WATCH Pleading guilty to stealing a watch value £10 10s., Mrs. Brenda Pauline Williams (23), of 11 Norris-road, Blacon, said she was short of money but she knew she should not have taken it. Chief Insp. W. Lowe said at Chester City Magistrates Court on Wednesday that Mrs. Edna Bessie Crimes of 13, Norris-road, who lived next door to the defendant, put her wrist-watch on the mantelpiece in the kitchen. Defendant was in the kitchen at the time and Mrs. Crimes went upstairs, leaving her talking with another member of her family. When she came downstairs, defendant had left the house and later Mrs. Crimes discovered that the watch had gone. Defendant was fined £10 and made subject to a supervision order until the fine was paid." From The Cheshire Observer of 18 April 1975: "FREE TRAVEL PETITION Dismayed at the new concessionary bus tokens scheme for pensioners, a 60 years old Blacon widow is to organise a petition calling for free travel for senior citizens on Corporation buses. Mrs. Edna Crimes [PHOTOGRAPH], of 61, Hatton Road, hopes to gather 2,000 signatures for a petition which she is to present to Mrs. Selina Tomlins, a member of the Social Services Sub-Committee ..." |
