Birth surname may be POTTS - see daughter Kathleen Clare.
The 1939 Register gives a lengthy description of occupation which is not fully legible: "Owner of T Crimes ?? Swansea ship ?? scaling ?? Company."
From The Kington Times of 16 September 1950: "Woman Drove Carelessly - Sequel to Ludlow Street Crash - There was a sequel to an accident in which two cars were involved, when Catherine Jane Crimes, a married woman, of East Gate Lodge, Doveridge, Derbyshire, was charged at Ludlow Borough Court on Tuesday, with driving her car without due care and attention at Ludlow on August 17th. She was not present, but had written a letter to the magistrates admitting the offence. P.C. Hawkins said that while directing traffic in Tower Street at 12.30 p.m. defendant drove her car across Bull Ring and collided with another car. Her explanation was that at the time she was looking for traffic sign plates and was not certain which road to take for Leominster. She was fined £2." Whilst the address is unexpected, there is no other Catherine Jane Crimes who could fit the circumstances. It is however possible that the newspaper incorrectly reported "Grimes" as "Crimes".
Catherine Jane's Grant of Probate reads: "CRIMES Catherine Jane of St. George's Hospital Coton Hill Stafford widow died 26 August 1963. Probate Birmingham 28 October to Barclays Bank Limited. Effects: £4166 9s."
An entry in The London Gazette of 18 October 1963 seeks claimants to Catherine Jane's estate.
