Frank was admitted to Boteler Grammar School, Warrington on 3 February 1870. The admission record gives his parent's name as "Mrs. Joseph Chrimes", consistent with his father having died in 1869. Frank left that school in June 1874.
Frank was a Master Mariner. He was half brother of Henry CHRIMES, also a Master Mariner.
Frank was indentured as an apprentice to the Merchant Navy on 2 June 1875 at Liverpool.
Frank attained his Second Mate Certificate in 1883.
From The Cheshire Observer of 16 April 1892: "MARRIAGES - CHRIMES-EDWARDS - April 12, at Gresford Parish Church, Frank, son of the late Alderman Joseph Chrimes, of Warrington, to Edith, eldest daughter of Mr. John Edwards, of Gresford."
Frank does not appear on the 1901 or 1911 UK Census, though his wife Edith does, declared as "Married". Frank was presumably overseas.
Of his many voyages as captain, the two Atlantic crossings in 1918 must surely have been hazardous.
Frank was initiated into the Bootle Wilbraham Lodge of Freemasons at Knotty Ash, Liverpool on 28 August 1902.
Frank captained several voyages to Australia and at least one to New York (in 1918).
Frank witnessed the Marriage Certificate of his daughter Ethel Mary in 1924 as "Frank Chrimes C.B.E."
From The Advertiser Adelaide 17 March 1937: "I hear from Dave Blyth that Captain Frank Chrimes well known Blue Funnel Line skipper of the Ascanius and later the Ulysses passed away in England recently. He had been living in retirement for some years. Dave showed me an interesting momento of the Ascanius - a signed menu card of a dinner on board at the Outer Harbor on October 13 1914 the night before she sailed with troops for the war."
