The following newspaper extract may apply, there being no better candidate: From The Widnes Examiner of 28 July 1894: "TEN MILE CYCLE RACE AT RUNCORN On Wednesday afternoon a ten-mile handicap was run off on the old Aston course, Runcorn, by members of the Runcorn Cycle Club. There were seventeen entries, but probably in consequence of the heavy state of the roads, only six turned up to compete... The competitors were ... T.J. Chrimes... Crawford and Chrimes unfortunately came to grief after completing the first lap, but luckily received no personal injury, their machines being slightly damaged..." John Thomas married twice. His first wife Annie FRADLEY died in 1911 and John Thomas married Sarah HAYNES in 1913. In 1921 John Thomas was employed by Running Department of L.N.W. Railway. In the 1921 England Census John Thomas declared his age to be 37 years and 10 months whereas he was in fact 38 years and 10 months. John Thomas is listed on the 1939 Register as "Thomas J Chrimes". John Thomas's Grant of Probate reads: "CHRIMES John Thomas of 11 Jockey Street Warrington died 19 December 1950 Probate Liverpool 28 March to Ronald Fowler Chandler florist. Effects £431 2s." |
