I cannot find a birth record for Thomas. In 1861 Thomas was still living with his parents and siblings in Kingswinford, Staffordshire, aged 10 named CRIMES In 1871 Thomas was aged 18 (b.1853) a boarder, single, in Warrington, declared as born in Brierley Hill and was using the name CHRIMES for the first time. The excellent marriage record on LOPC is in the name GRIMES but is annotated: 'The man states that Grimes should be Chrimes and the certificate has been altered to this effect' From The Widnes Examiner of 28 May 1892: "WARRINGTON BOROUGH POLICE COURT - EDUCATION CASES - The following persons were fined, at the instance of Mr. Riley, school attendance officer, for not sending their children to school:- Thomas Chrimes, Portland-st, ..." In the 1911 Census, Thomas gives his birthplace as Hartshill, Staffordshire which Philip CRIMES has pointed out should be Hart's Hill, a district of Kingswinford. In 1921 Thomas was living in the household of his daughter Margaret Bracegirdle née CHRIMES. In the 1921 England Census Thomas's age was declared to be 69 years and 4 months which leads to a birth date of February 1852. In 1921 Thomas was employed by Pearson and Knowles Coal & Iron Co. Limited of Dallam Forge, Warrington. |
