The burial record gives age at death as 34 which is consistent with the age at the 1861 UK Census. Despite this, I cannot find a Deaths Index record. However Betty's Proving of Will reads: "CRIMES Betty. 13 December. The Will of Betty Crimes late of 2 Briddon street Strangeways Manchester in the County of Lancaster deceased who died 12 August 1864 at Stakehill in the Parish of Middleton in the said County was proved at Manchester by the oaths of James Johnson of Stakehill aforesaid Farmer and George Johnson of 2 Briddon street aforesaid Manager of Print Works the Brothers and Martha Johnson of Stakehill aforesaid Spinster the Sister the Executors. Effects under £100" At the time of her death, Betty's children (now orphaned) were aged 10, 8 and 4 years so could not have been executors to her will. 'Betty Crimes' appears on the Index to Death Duty Registers dated 1864. |
