William was registered at birth as CRIMES, and that is the name on his baptism record.
From Soulby's Ulverston Advertiser and General Intelligencer of 24 December 1885: "MARRIAGES - CHRIMES-GUNSON - On the 22nd inst., at Lowick Parish Church, by the Rev. R. Rogers, Mr. Wm. Chrimes, of Halton, Cheshire, to Hannah, eldest daughter of Mr. R. Gunson, Broughton Beck."
From The Blackburn Standard and Weekly Express of 28 May 1892: "A Patriotic Poet - Mr. W Chrimes of Winsford in Cheshire has written a patriotic song.... 'Let the Kingdom be united to the end' [which] will obtain a certain vogue at Unionists' meetings."
From The Sussex Agricultural Express of 26 May 1893: "A MOUSTACHE GUARD - A new moustache guard has just been patented by Mr. W. Chrimes, of 37, Gladstone-street, Winsford, Cheshire. For persons having a heavy moustache it is a useful little article for preventing the wetting of the moustache when drinking. It is simply a small comb, having a hinged nickle[sic]-plated projection. The comb is pushed into the moustache, and the plate hanging outwards prevents the moustache drooping, thus checking the tendency of the hirsutary appendage to sample the liquid so temptingly placed beneath it. The price of the guard is 1s. post free."
The assignment of the 1920 Deaths Index record is facilitated by contributions from P R CHRIMES
