Douglas attended Grappenhall Church of England Primary School from 23 November 1903, having previously been a pupil of Warrington National School.
The Electoral Register of 'Absent Voters' for 1918 describes Douglas as 'Wireless Operator, R.N.'
The Electoral Register of 'Absent Voters' for 1919 describes Douglas as 'H.M.S. Heinsgate'.
In 1921 Douglas was a 'Visitor' to a HULME family, though more probably a Boarder.
In 1921 Douglas was employed by Boots Pure Drug Co. Ltd. of Island St. Works, Nottingham.
Douglas appears in the Electoral Registers as living with his mother at Fallowfield, Manchester continuously from 1918 to 1924 (albeit absent 1918/19 for military service) which conflicts with the 1921 England Census, with the Electoral Register for 1922 and with the contribution below.
Douglas's marriage in 1937, though improbable given that he would be age 45, has been confirmed by his son.
Douglas is recorded as returning to England by ship with his wife and child in 1956; although the ship had come from Australia, the CHRIMESs embarked at Marseilles.
From P R CHRIMES: "Douglas Chrimes .... served as a radio operator (lieutenant?) on a cross-Channel boat during 1914-18 war ..... worked for some 40 years for the same company (Boots), ... lived in Nottingham continuously from about 1918/19 to 1959/60... served as an air raid warden in Nottingham during the Second World War .... retired in 1957 to Eastbourne to become a (small) hotelier (c. 1963-1969)"
Douglas's maritime employment is also described in a FindMyPast "Merchant navy and maritime" record (1918) which includes a photograph!.
