Joseph John did not marry. From The London Gazette of 15 November 1867: "Notice is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us, Benjamin Swann and Joseph John Chrimes, carrying on business in copartnership as Commission Agents and Merchants, at No.18, Marsden-square, Manchester, under the firm of Swann and Chrimes, is hereby dissolved by mutual consent; and that all debts to or from the said partnership will be received and paid by the said Benjamin Swann, who will continue to carry on the business." Joseph was admitted to Withington Workhouse in 1889, 1890 and 1903. Joseph John's burial was recorded at Withington Workhouse but took place at Sale. Joseph John's Record of Administration reads: "CHRIMES Joseph John of the Union Workhouse Withington Manchester died 2 August 1904 Administration Manchester 27 November to Charles Frederick Jesper pharmacist Herbert Joseph Jesper commercial traveller Ada Caroline Jesper spinster and John William Greenwood bachelor of medicine.
