From The Manchester Evening News of 1 December 1941: "Farm Boy Killed by Motor Cycle. Seventeen-year-old Joseph Ernest Crimes, of Oak Farm, Ollerton, Knutsford, received fatal injuries, it was stated at the inquest today, when on Thursday night he was wheeling his bicycle behind a horse-drawn cart. It was stated that Aircraftsman George Gosling of Mayfield Avenue, Macclesfield, whose motor-cycle came into collision with Crimes, was seriously ill and was not likely to be discharged from Altrincham General Hospital for another two months. The inquest was adjourned until January 31." Joseph Ernest's Grant of Administration reads: "CRIMES Joseph Ernest of Oak Farm, Ollerton near Knutsford, Cheshire died 27 November 1941 at The General Hospital, Altrincham, Cheshire. Administration Llandudno 24 July to Arthur Ernest Crimes farmer. Effects: £361 5s." It is surprising that Joseph Ernest's estate was subject to administration after dying at the age of just 17 years. |
