Edward's marriage register entry gives his father's name as Peter CRIMES, Grocer.
However, Edward is connected to his mother by circumstantial evidence, including the fact that he shared the unusual occupation Pawnbroker with his brother William Cartwright.
There is a 'Manchester Rate Books' record for 1859 showing 'W & E Crimes', William Crimes and 'Edmd' Crimes occupying a 'House & Shop' at 125 Deansgate, Manchester.
From The London Gazette of 22 December 1865: Notice is hereby given that the Partnership subsisting between us the undersigned Willam Crimes and Edward Crimes, in the business of Grocers and Tea Dealers, carried on by us at No. 125, Deansgate and No. 49, Portland-street in the city of Manchester and at No. 98 Stretford-road, Hulme, in the said city, under the style or firm of W. and E. Crimes, is this day dissolved..."
From The Manchester Evening News of 5 September 1871: DEATHS - CRIMES - On the 3rd. inst., at his residence, Brooklands, in the 48th year of his age, Mr. Edward Crimes, grocer and pawnbroker, of this city."
Edward's Proving of Will record reads: "8 March [1872] The Will with a Codicil of CRIMES Edward late of 3 Stanley Terrace Brooklands in the County of Chester and of the City of Manchester Grocer and Pawnbroker who died 3 September 1871 at 3 Stanley Terrace was proved at Chester by Nancy Crimes of 3 Stanley Terrace Widow the Relict and Jane Crimes of 3 Stanley Terrace Spinster the Daughter Two of the Executors.
