The full name is given in the Baptism record. In the 1871 England Census Joseph Arthur was named Joseph A B, and in the 1881 England Census he was named John A B. The initial B does not appear thereafter. In 1901 aged 32 Joseph Arthur was still single. In 1911 aged 42 Joseph Arthur was still single, living with his widowed mother. In the 1921 England Census Joseph Arthur Brown CHRIMES was living with his mother Jane Ann Chrimes née BROWN, his half-sister Henrietta Corner née CHRIMES (d.1917)'s widower George William CORNER and Henrietta's daughter Laura Frances CORNER. In 1921 Joseph Arthur Brown was employed by Dock Engineers N.E.R at Dock Yard, Hull. From The Hull Daily Mail of 24 January 1936: "Hull Oddfellows' Meeting - National Independent Order's Event. The Prov. Grand Master (Bro. J.A. Chrimes) presided at the annual meeting of Hull District of the National Independent Order of Oddfellows....." From The Hull Daily Mail of 5 January 1942: "DEATHS - CHRIMES - Jan. 4th 1942, at Camden, Main-road, Bilton, Joseph Arthur, beloved uncle of Laura F Corner. Service Wednesday, Wyton Methodist Chapel, 1 p.m. Interment Hedon-road Cemetery. - With loved ones gone before." Joseph Arthur's Grant of Probate record reads: "CHRIMES Joseph Arthur of Camden Main Road Bilton Yorkshire died 4 January 1942 Probate York to Laura Frances Corner spinster. Effects £318 12s. 2d." Laura Frances CORNER was the daughter of Joseph Arthur's half-sister Henrietta CHRIMES. |
