Mary Ellen was known as Ellen. From The Cheshire Observer of 20 January 1917: "DEATH OF MRS. E. CRIMES.- We deeply regret to record the death of Mrs. Ellen Crimes, which took place early on Sunday, at her residence, Laburnum House, Oscroft, after a few hours' illness. She was 60 years of age, and was the widow of Mr. Thomas Crimes, pavior and master well maker, who pre-deceased her about two years ago. Apparently in her usual health, she attended to her duties on Saturday, and, as was her custom, did her marketing at Tarvin at night. While at the supper table Mrs. Crimes complained of feeling ill, and shortly afterwards lapsed into unconsciousness, and died at 6 o'clock the following morning. A long resident of the parish, she had many friends, and her death has cast a gloom over the district. The deepest sympathy is extended to the son and four daughters left to mourn her loss." and "FUNERAL OF MRS. CRIMES. - The funeral of Mrs. Ellen Crimes took place at St. Andrew's Church on Thursday afternoon...." From The Chester Chronicle of 9 February 1918: "Sidney R. Fearnall has been instructed by the Administrator of the late Mary Ellen Crimes, of Oscroft, Tarvin, Chester, to SELL BY AUCTION on FRIDAY NEXT, February 15th, Sheds, Tools, Implements, Household Furniture, Piano, etc. Sale to commence at 1.30 .." |
