From The Liverpool Daily Post of 7 August 1867: "FURIOUS DRIVING - Thomas Crimes, a man having the appearance of a farmer, was fined 20s, with costs, for having, on Sunday morning, the 20th ult., driven a horse attached to a shandry at a furious and dangerous speed in Hamilton-street. The informing officer said the defendant was drunk at the time."
From The Liverpool Mercury of 13 February 1875: "ASSAULT ON A BUILDER - A carter, named Thomas Crimes, was summoned for assaulting Mr. Thomas Corkhill, builder, of Wilkinson-street, and for wilfully damaging the complainant's goods to the amount of 10s. Mr. Moore appeared for the complainant and Mr. Pugh for the defence.- Mr. Corkshill stated that on the evening of the 23rd. ult. the defendant called upon his house and demanded 5s. for work done. Complainant found fault with the charge, whereupon the defendant became abusive and violent, upset an inkstand and spoiled the tablecloth. Seeing that the defendant was in drink, complainant went out for a police-officer. The defendant followed him, seized him by the neck, and dragged him down Oxton-road, and into a beerhouse in John-street off Grange-lane. The distance complainant was dragged was about half a mile. The Landlord of the beerhouse would not let them remain, and on getting into the street defendant let complainant go. In cross-examination, complainant said he was sober, but the defendant was intoxicated. The complainant's statement was partly corroborated by his wife and niece; but Mr. Fawcett, the landlord of the beerhouse in John-street, siad both men were tipsy, and he turned them out of the house in consequence.- The defence was that the complainant and defendant were drunk, that both men went together arm-in-arm in a friendly way, and that no assault was committed.- The magistrate held that the assault was proved, and ordered the defendant to pay a fine of 40s. and costs."
The 1878 marriage is recorded in both St. Anne and St. Mary, Birkenhead parish registers
