In 1917 George William joined the National Union of Railwaymen, his occupation being "Bargeman" on the Shropshire Union Canal. George William failed to enlist as a soldier in WWI as "Not being likely to become an efficient soldier - Medical Grounds - Under Age viz. 17 - Insufficient Development - Tubercular Glands" In 1921 George William was employed by Pearsons Co. Road Contractors at Ellesmere Port. The 1939 Register includes two more people living with George William and Mary E, probably their children, but they are redacted and investigation of the Births Index show that there were at least two GRIMES/GRIFFITHS parents bearing children 1924-1939 in Wirral, so it is not possible to identify these additional children. |
